24-D application The window for application of 24-D for 2009/10 in the Ord River Irrigation Area has now closed. No further spraying of this herbicide is permitted until authorised by the Department of Agriculture. It is anticipated that this window will re-open late October / early November 2010. Community

ORDCO has a strong local presence and is a proud supporter of numerous community events and organisations.

ORDCO is the major sponsor of the Kununurra Agricultural Show and has had a proud affiliation with this event over many years. The show is held during July annually and is showcase for the area and its people and products.

ORDCO also provides sponsorship to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, local rodeo and raceclubs, junior and senior sporting clubs and associations and local service clubs.

Membership Qualification

Membership is open to anyone who owns a farming business within the Ord Irrigation Area and subject to the meeting of the active trading qualification of the Co-op.

Membership applications require board approval and subject to the purchase of the minimum 500 x $2.00 shares.

ORDCO operates a grain pool for locally produced maize, chickpea and culinary beans. The benefits includes the utilization of common infrastructure and benefits of marketing under one collective brand. In addition ORDCO also provides contract grain handling services to various commercial entities.

Seed Cleaning and Grading

ORDCO has an array of seed cleaning equipment capable of grading a variety of grains from extra large Kabuli chickpeas down to sorghum.

Storage and Handling

ORDCO offers a variety of storage solutions:

10,000t bulk storage shed at Wyndham (adjacent to port loading facilities)
5,000t bulk storage shed at Wyndham (adjacent to port loading facilities)
11 x 400 tonne drying silos
30t and 75t silos
Bulka bag loading facilities
25 kg bag packing facilities

Marketing

In conjunction with our grain pool services, ORDCO has an experienced team of grain merchants to market on behalf of the collective grower group. All grains are marketed under the infamous ORD RIVER brand which has become synonymous in the market place over many years of consistent quality supply.

Logistics

Conducting business in an isolated area such as Kununurra can often be challenging - ORDCO has long established relationships and local experience in arranging to move the high value produce interstate, intrastate and overseas.

ORDCO employs two full time agronomists to provide support to local growers through the provision of comprehensive range of analytical and diagnostic services which include:

Fee for service consultation on crop protection and irrigation
Integrated pest management systems
Pest and disease identification
Weed identification and herbicide programs
Nutrition diagnostics
Soil testing
Leaf testing
Sap testing
Water testing

Our agronomic team is responsible for introducing new products, concepts and technologies to growers. This is achieved through regular on farm visits, grower meetings and field days.

ORDCO has a very strong alliance with Lone Eagle Pty Ltd for the provision of aerial spraying services to members. Chemical stock is warehoused at the airstrip and customers can purchase on a per litre or per kilo basis as and when required.
